Common Asked Questions
Q. Are Gas Powered Vehicles Safe?

Yes, Gas powered vehicles are Safe, Especially when take into consideration the amount of safety features incorporated in to gas powered or dual fuel vehicles

LPG Vehicle parts are made and tested to very high standards they are tested and approved by the EC and AGA Gas associations around the world

All Vehicle Conversions must be tested for safety and for correct fitting of the conversion before any use, this should be done by a Qualified LPG Vehicle Tester, a certificate of compliance is issued for the conversion fitted to the vehicle, this is also for your safety and insurance company

Here are a few examples of the safety features on Lpg systems compared with petrol vehicles

Q. What is Autogas Fuel?

Autogas Fuel is LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) it is a mixture of Propane and Butane both are vapour gases, when compressed the gas turns in to a Liquid and called LPG also know as just Propane or Calor Gas
LPG gas has no true smell it is also colourless, for safety an Alert odour is added like with natural town gas we use every day in our homes

Autogas is also:
  • Non Toxic
  • Non Corrosive
  • Lead Free
.
Q. Propane Bottle Gas, What's the Difference?

Note: It is illegal and very dangerous to use a normal Domestic cylinder in vehicle as they are not designed to be used in this way, All LPG vehicle fuel tanks are specially designed and tested for vehicle use, they are permanently secured in to the vehicle and incorporate special safety features like tank safety multi valves, etc. tank joints & pipes are sealed from the inside and vented to the out side of the vehicle for safety

Bottle Gas can only be transferred to a vehicle tank by using an LPG Transfer Pump

Although the fuel is basically the same, Except it is classed as un-purified fuel and may contain more heavy ends than fuel from a garage, heavy ends in LPG looks like a dark oil substance, it is invisible in the fuel and only separates from the LPG when the gas becomes a vapour this is done in the vaporizer unit in the vehicles engine compartment where gas vapour is supplied to the engine as fuel, any heavy ends sit at the bottom of the vaporizer unit until drained through the service plug

Bottle gas should Not be used as a road fuel unless you have paid the (Road Tax Duty) on the fuel when buying the bottle gas, it can however be used for of road use like in boats, off road 4x4, etc.
.
Q. How much is in a Cylinder?

47kg cylinder Holds about 93 litres, the calculation is approximately 0.502 kg per litre
.
Q. What is a Dual Fuel System?

Dual Fuel system is a petrol vehicle that has been converted to run on Autogas LPG Fuel, But can still use petrol at any time at the flick of a switch in side the vehicle
.
Q. Can I Fit My Own Conversion Kit?

Yes, We supply many D.i.y, Home mechanics with conversion kits this can save them a small fortune on the labour charges, All Conversion Kits and parts we sell to the D.i.y & Non LPG trade are on the strict understanding that the conversion will be tested for safety when installed and before any use on LPG Fuel.
This should be done for your safety your insurance company and DVLC should also be told

Testing of the conversion must be done by a Qualified LPG Vehicle Tester, who will issue with a certificate of compliance

We also offer this service for a small charge
.
Q. Is Autogas Really a Cheaper Fuel?

Yes, Autogas fuel is far cheaper than petrol it is also available at most garages around the UK, most garages charge around 36.9p a litre or less like BP - Shell - Jet, etc.

With petrol prices at 76.9p a litre it makes sense to convert to use Autogas

On average a motorist travels 12,000 miles a year or more with an average miles per gallon of say 30 mpg.

Total cost in Petrol at 76.9p per lt. would cost £1384.20 per year

Total cost in Autogas would have been only £664.20 a year

An instant Saving of £720.00 per year

.
Q. LPG Fuel Emissions

LPG powered vehicles have far less emissions than other fuels, in some cases, none of the following harmful emissions
  • carbon monoxide
  • methane
  • sulphur dioxide
  • low level ozone
  • unburned hydrocarbons
  • oxides of nitrogen
  • Particulate (PM10s) are non existent in LPG

Reduced greenhouse emissions. Tests conducted by the AGA association showed that a vehicle using LPG produced lower emissions compared to unleaded petrol

  • 62% reduction in Carbon monoxide emissions
  • 83% reduction in Hydrocarbon emissions
  • 65% reduction in emissions of oxides of Nitrogen*
.
Q. Will Converting to Autogas Effect my warranty?

Most major car manufacturers warranties will not be effected by the addition of LPG. However, consult your dealer or manufacturer prior to going ahead with your conversion
.
Q. Will LPG Damage my Engine?

LPG does not harm engines that are designed to run on unleaded fuel

But it can increase the engines life by up to 50% longer as there is no carbon deposits in LPG
carbon deposits from petrol make the engine oil turn (black) this is carbon it works like a very fine grinding past and wears the engine over time shortening the engines life

Engines that run on LPG do not produce carbon deposits in the oil so the oil stays clean protecting the engine and extending the engines life
.
Q. Will I Loose vehicles performance?

Lost of performance is mostly down to the type of conversion kit or parts fitted to the vehicle, the most important parts for performance is the vaporizer & mixer, when ever possible it is recommended to fit a variable performance mixer so as not to restrict the engine rpm

A minor drop in power may be experienced in some vehicle applications however, this will vary based on driving conditions, engine wear and fuel quality used.
.
Q. Can I Convert My Turbo Charged Vehicle

Turbo Charge Vehicles can be converted to use Autogas fuel, this can be done by an experienced Good D.i.y mechanic, but is more complicated than normal engine conversions
.
Q. Are there any Modifications To The Engine?

there are no major modifications to the engine or manifold, The only modification to the engine is to fit a Gas Mixer unit in to the air intake manifold

If the engine is injection an emulator unit is plugged into the injectors, this switches of the petrol injectors while running on LPG
